Sonic UBC Laptop Sounds and Sensors presents the Laptop Orchestra, laptop ensembles with synthetic sound controlled by a variety of sensors in live performance.
Watch as performers combine the body scan of a Kinect with Wii controllers to create, shape, and move sounds in 8 channel surround sound. See the unique interplay of 3 digital instruments, each consisting of a trackpad and an accelerometer watch and interfaced through a computer network enabling each performer to take over control of the others’ instruments. Behold the amazing transformations of sound as a percussionist plays a cajon with a variety of sensors attached to it. Experience the wonders of a digital choir, performed on iPods and iPhones.
Featuring the composing/computer coding/performing efforts of Alyssa Aska, Kieran Coulter, Michelle Hillier, Ryan Noakes, Martin Ritter, Jodi Spacek, and Johnty Wang, with some extra assistance from Keith Hamel, Bob Pritchard, Nicolas d’Alessandro, and Auro Pon, and Jeremy Lawi & Naithan Bosse as guest percussionist and guest digital chorister respectively.
